The fourth edition of published guidelines and standards in the field of travel health medicine is available
The fourth edition of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Travel Health Nursing: career and competence development was published on 11 May 2023.
This updated publication builds on previous editions providing information on current guidelines and standards for the care of travellers by appropriately registered practitioners within the four countries of the UK. This includes changes to travel health service delivery in Scotland.
Major changes from the previous edition include:
- More detail about the provision of vaccines in occupational health and military settings.
- Reflects on changes to the provision of travel health services in Scotland.
- Greater attention to specific topics and types of travellers including those from the LGBTQ+ community.
- Inclusion of a Care Quality Commission Mythbuster for travel health services.
- A competency assessment tool aligned to the Good Practice Guidance.
No hard copies will be printed, this publication will be available in electronic format only. References are fully hyperlinked.
Although focused on the work of the registered nurse working in travel health, information and guidance within this publication is applicable to other qualified practitioners providing travel health services, including doctors and pharmacists.
