Japanese encephalitis in Australia

Japanese encephalitis virus has been detected in a mosquito sample in Lake Wyangan, New South Wales collected on 3 December 2024. Health authorities are reminding residents and visitors to the area to take protective measures. Chikungunya in India

As of 31 October, India recorded 12,587 chikungunya cases since the beginning of 2024. This accounts for the highest number of confirmed cases in the past six years. The states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and Uttarakhand are showing a substantial increase in cases compatared to the past six years. Yellow fever in Central African Republic

Between 30 November and 6 December 2024, nine new suspected cases of yellow fever were reported from three regions in the Central African Republic. Since the beginning of 2024, a cumulative case count of 390 suspected cases and one death have been reported from all seven regions. Yellow fever in Gabon

Between 30 November and 6 December 2024, five new suspected cases of yellow fever were reported from two regions in Gabon. Since the beginning of 2024, a cumulative case count of 146 cases (nine were confirmed) and no deaths have been reported from all 10 regions in Gabon. Undiagnosed illness in DRC

Between 24 October and 5 December 2024, 406 cases and 31 deaths from an undiagnosed illness have been reported in Panzi, Kwango Province. Symptoms include fever, cough, malaise and runny nose. Over half of cases have been reported in children. A rapid response team has been sent to the region for further support and investigation.

Leptospirosis in Spain

Since the flash flooding took place on 29 and 30 October 2024, five cases of leptospirosis have been reported. Of these, two are probable cases detected among volunteers awaiting confirmatory results. The floods affected areas in eastern Spain especially Valencia and Castilla La-Mancha. Dengue in USA

On 25 November 2024, the first locally acquired case of dengue in Texas for 2024 was reported. As of 25 November 2024, 106 travel associated cases and one death were reported in Texas.
