Mpox in Belgium
As of 10 January 2025, Belgium has reported a second confirmed mpox case (clade Ib). Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and state risk of infection for the general population in Belgium is extremely low. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on mpox.
Mpox in China ex DRC
On 9 January 2025, China reported five confirmed cases of mpox clade Ib. The first case had been living in DRC where clade Ib has been reported. The other cases were close contacts of the first case. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on mpox.
Mpox in France
On 7 January 2025, France's Ministry of Labor, Health, Solidarity and Families reported it's first case of clade Ib mpox in the Brittany region. The case did not have a travel history to Central Africa, but had been in contact with two individuals who had returned from a country in Central Africa. Mpox in Zambia
On 30 December 2024, a third mpox case was confirmed by the Zambia Ministry of Health. Clade type was not reported. Zambia's first mpox case during November 2024 was clade typed to be clade Ib. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on mpox.
Mpox in Oman ex UAE
As of 15 December 2024, the Sultanate of Oman had reported its first recorded case of mpox due to clade I. The case is an adult male residing in Oman who reported travelling from the United Arab Emirates. Information on subclade is not yet available. Mpox in Pakistan ex UAE
The first case of clade Ib mpox previously reported to the WHO on 2 December 2024 is an adult male who had been residing in the United Arab Emirates. Mpox in Zimbabwe
As of 22 December 2024, two cases of mpox clade Ib have been reported during 2024. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on mpox.
Mpox in Canada
As of 22 November 2024, the first case of clade Ib mpox was in reported in Manitoba, Canada, by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). The case is travel-related and linked to recent outbreaks reported in central and eastern Africa. The risk to the general population in Canada remains low at this time. Mpox in USA ex Eastern Africa
As of 16 November 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported the first case of mpox clade I in an individual who travelled from Eastern Africa to California. Mpox in Gabon ex Uganda
As of 6 October 2024, Gabon had reported two confirmed cases of mpox. The first case was reported on 22 August 2024 in Libreville. This case had recently travelled to Uganda, where it is considered likely the virus was contracted. The second case was a known contact of the first. Mpox in India ex UAE
As of 20 October 2024, India has detected one case of clade Ib mpox in a traveller from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). No case of clade Ib mpox has been reported in UAE. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on mpox.
Mpox in United Kingdom
On 4 November 2024, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reported that two cases of clade Ib mpox have been detected in household contacts of a first case reported on 30 October 2024. This brings the total number of confirmed clade Ib mpox cases to three. The index case had recently travelled to countries in Africa that are seeing community cases of the disease. On 24 October 2024, it was confirmed that the imported case of mpox clade Ib had travelled from Rwanda.

As of 1 September 2024, Kenya have reported four cases of mpox clade Ib.

As of 1 September 2024, Rwanda have reported four cases of mpox clade Ib.

Between 9 January and 25 August 2024, 21 confirmed and 155 suspected clade I mpox have been reported.

As of 2 September 2024, the Ministry of Health of Uganda has reported a total of 10 confirmed cases of mpox since the first reports on 24 July 2024.
Mpox in Thailand
On 22 August 2024, clade Ib mpox was confirmed in a traveller who returned to Thailand from an African country experiencing a mpox outbreak on 14 August 2024.
Mpox in Central African Republic
Since the beginning of 2024 and up to 16 August, a total of 263 cases (40 confirmed) have been reported. Of the confirmed cases, 43 percent have been in children under the age of 15 years. Clade I mpox has been isolated from confirmed cases.
Mpox in Sweden ex Africa
As of 15 August 2024, a case of mpox clade I has been reported in a returned traveller in Stockholm. This is the first mpox clade I case reported outside the African continent. This traveller visited a region of Africa reporting a major outbreak of mpox clade I.
Mpox in Burundi
As of 13 August 2024, a total of 100 confirmed mpox cases have been reported from 23 health districts in Burundi. Clade Ib mpox cases have been confirmed.
Mpox in DRC
From 1 January to 26 May 2024, 7,851 suspected cases were reported, including 384 deaths, from 23 of the 26 provinces. This compares to 3,924 suspected cases reported during the same period in 2023. The most affected provinces in 2024 are Equateur, Sud Ubangi, Sankuru and South Kivu.
